The story
The New Mexico Open has been played every year since 1954, except 2020. This year an amateur from New Mexico State won it by seven. A year earlier he missed the cut.
His second-round 61 was the low score of the week. Because he’s an amateur, the $30,000 first-place check went to the low professional, Ryan Sullivan. That detail had to be clear in the first two sentences.
How I built it
The page walks through the three rounds, then follows Sullivan. The Top 10 is a real table, so it reads on a phone and shows up in search. A short roundup covers the two aces and six eagles, and the page closes with the championship’s history.
For the PGA newsletter I cut the same story down to two paragraphs and one button. The presenting partner appears once, in the credit line.
